Yard bird #6 - Bee Eater

Yard bird #6 – Bee Eater

They migrate, passing through my neighborhood twice a year. I usually hardly see them, which is too bad as they are so beautiful. This image was made this winter, after I have heard them early in the morning chattering through the sky, near the kitchen window. They eat mostly flying insects, and quite a lot of those. A bee eater can eat hundreds of bees a day (!) and this explains their agile flight and very special shape.
