טרס מים האזמרגד/ ברנדון סנדרסון
בקורונה ברנדון סנדרסון ביטל את נסיעות הקידום של ספריו וישב בבית עם משפחתו. הוא חשב מה היה קורה ב״הנסיכה הקסומה״ אם הנסיכה נורית לא היתה מתייאשת לנוכח הודעה על אובדנו של בן זוגה, אלא יוצאת לחפש אותו. ככה נולד הספר הנפלא הזה, אחד הטובים שקראתי שנה שעברה.
נתחיל מהסתייגות: כל התרגומים של כל הדברים שכתובים כאן הם שלי, ועשויים להיות לא מדויקים ודי מסורבלים.
טרס (קבוצת שיער) מכונה כך בשל שיערה הפרוע. יש לה שם אמיתי, והוא ניתן לנו בתחילת הספר אבל אני לא זוכרת אותו. היא אוהבת ספלים ואפיה, יודעת לעבוד קשה ומוצאת אהבה בדמות בחור מתחכם מטירת הדוכס המקומי. כשמתגלה לה שהדוכס שלח את הבחור אל האבדון, ושמושא אהבתה נחטף בידי מכשפת החצות האיומה בסוף הים האפל, לא נופלות פניה והיא מחליטה לעזוב את הסלע המוכר עליו היא חיה את חייה עד כה וללכת לחלץ אותו.
סיפור הרפתקה עם דמויות מפתיעות (באמת!) ועולם קסם-מדע מפתיע עוד יותר.
טרס עזבה את האי על ספינה, והתגלגלה לספינת פיראטים. לכוכב של טרס יש שבעה ירחים, וכל אחד מהם משיר מין נסורת (בחירת מילים משובשת בכוונה) בצבע אחר. מכאן קיבלו הימים את שמם: הים הירוק, האדום, ים החצות וכו׳. טרס עצמה מגיעה מים האזמרגד, הים הירוק. בכל יום הירחים מסתובבים סביב הכוכב והנסורת נופלת מהם. זה הקסם שניסיתי להביא לאיור הזה.

Tress of the Emerald Sea / Brandon Sanderson
It’s my first Sanderson book and I am way too obsessed with it. Apparently it was a Covid project, as many book tours were canceled. A time to test and question. A good question would be “what if Princess Buttercup of the Princess Bride wouldn’t accept her lover’s death and go actively look for him”?
Tress grew up on a rock surrounded by a great green sea. She loves her cups collection, baking, and Charlie. When she finds out that Charlie was sent far away and was taken by the cruel witch of the Midnight Sea, she decides to go after him, embarking on an adventure which will take her many places and bring us to meet surprising characters.
This world created by Sanderson has absolutely stunning magic and science to it. It is clear that it was very important for him to make it “hold” and explore the creative potential of this set of rules. The world is also very visual: the planet is covered in seas of fallout (word choice intentional) from several colorful moons around it. I imagined it to create almost impossible light, and had to chase that light for quite a few sketches. Even though these seas are nothing like ours, people travel on ships across them, and Tress was no different. I took the liberty to imagine this falling of particles from the moon to the sea.
